Description
The world is changing fast and demand for virtual reality is
increasingly moving in the direction of becoming our possible new way of having
meaningful experience without leaving our homes. The problem we are all facing
is that our social meetings in person are being limited. Virtual reality could
help with this, bringing you into a virtual experience that you do not even
have to leave your house for. As this is quite a large project, I put together
a team that was mentioned during the initial presentation.
Design Outcomes
The overall designed outcome from this project will be a
proof of concept virtual reality experience focused on phase 1 as outlined in
the initial presentation that will be created on Unity to run standalone on the
Oculus Quest 2 / Steam VR depending on client performance requirements. If
creative freedom is allowed, I would focus on developing Standalone for the
Oculus Quest 2 headset as not everyone who own a Quest 2 has a gaming pc to
hand however some features here will have to be scaled back.
The working player interactions will (but not limited to)
include:
-
The ability to print demo assets off on a
working 3d printer with an included educational tutorial.
-
Player movement controls (teleport, walk) with tutorial.
The environment will be ascetically pleasingly with the
design strongly linking to existing eagle labs, that will incorporate ‘life’
within the experience. Two characters will be designed and brought to life with
animations and sounds making the player feel less isolated within the
environment context, we also can discuss the ability to incorporate multiplayer
as this can work alongside AI characters by adding the real interactions with
real people.
Project Organisation using Monday.com
I am using Monday.com to organise the project workflow, As
we have yet to speak to the client the is no set meeting dates as of yet, The
dates you do see are subject to change but are in the right ball park to
simplify in a Gantt chart format:
In terms of our team meetings, these are weekly with open
door contact available during the working week. I like to review the project
every week leaving the possibility of new and changing directions to arise.
Further talks with the client will also mould this project down the line.
Demonstration of the project will be included in the Mid
& Final Presentation.
Research Manchester Eagle Lab VR Tour
https://labs.uk.barclays/locations/manchester#tour
Here we see the use of 360 images being stitched together to create a virtual space doing further research into the company that did this for Barclays eagle labs I'm led to believe they used a £10,000 camera in order to capture the images and then used artificial intelligence to stitch them all together using Matterport. The result is a highly detailed outcome of a space but is limited when it comes to user interaction.
